Taichung has plenty of local and international insurance firms to assist in all of your insurance needs. Two forms of insurance are government-based: the National Health Insurance system and Third-Person Vehicle Insurance (see links below). These are both inexpensive and offer coverage for a wide variety of situations and needs.
Other forms of insurance are covered by the private sector. In general, most areas that are covered by insurance abroad and may similarly be covered in Taiwan, ranging from home insurance to life insurance. Additionally, certain environmental factors that might not be indigenous to your home country but are common to Taiwan--such as typhoons and earthquakes--can easily be insured against in Taiwan. Generally, home (household) insurance fall into the categories of fire, theft, and allied perils (typhoons, quakes, etc.). Premiums are usually about one percent of the insured value per year, or about two to three percent for theft insurance. Information about home insurance is also readily available via real estate agents.
