Taiwan has a number of annual national holidays and festivals which are celebrated by most local residents, not to mention many foreigners residing in Taiwan. The traditional festivals, ranging from Lantern Festival to Moon (Mid-Autumn) Festival all bring colorful traditional festivities and celebrations to the island, and are an excellent way to enjoy a taste of local Chinese and Taiwanese culture. For nationally observed holidays (see listing), all schools and businesses are closed.
