For those who like their food spicy, Chinese Szechuan (Sichuan) cuisine certainly is near the top of the favourite's list. In Taichung there are countless places to get your Szechuan fix, from large family-style restaurants to little eateries.
Many Chinese restaurants include a few Szechuan dishes on the menu, for those looking for a little extra kick. This is the best option for those who like to go out with friends whose tastes are somewhat on the milder side.
Fortunately for those who like to eat alone, or have friends with similar passions, there are a fair number of dedicated Szechuan restaurants in town. Surely the king is the Ya Yuan chain - with at least four restaurants around town. Larger, popular, mid-range Sichuan restaurants with long menus include Xi Wei Xiang Sichuan Cuisine on the busy GongYi Road not far from the Little Europe area, and Jinchuan Sichuan Cuisine Restaurant in Beitun District on SongZhu Road's Section 3 (near ChongDe Road).
