Traditionally the Taichung city tree was the Palimara Alstonia, however the city/county merger may change this designation. Here is some information on the Palimara Alstonia:
The Palimara Alstonia and the Christmas Kalanchoe were chosen by the residents of Taichung City in 1988 as the city tree and the city flower. Through the diligent cultivation over many years, the Palimara Alstonia is the most popular cultivated plant in our city.
Gardening Classification: Evergreen Big Tree
Country of Origin: India & Philippines
Characteristics: With umbrella-shaped crown, straight trunk, neat and elegant figure, being the graceful appreciative tree of gardening with shadows. Propagation period is from spring to summer, and the method is by spreading the seeds or cutting.
