Elders invited to watch movie “A Simple Life”

  • Issued by   Social Affairs Bureau
  • Date:2012-05-28

Responding to issues concerning aging population and care to the elders, the Bandai Fu Cinemas (萬代福影城) and the Social Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government invited the elders and volunteers serving at the community care centers in Taichung City to watch the movie "A Simple Life" (桃姐) free of charge at the matinee

time 10:00 — 12:00 from now until May 31. A Simple Life tells the story of a servant and her employer, covering such issues as human interactions, feelings, relationships, old age, and the elderly care institutions in Hong Kong.
Wang Xiu-yan (王秀燕), Director-general of the Social Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government, expressed her thanks to the Bandai Fu Cinemas for offering such an art feast to the elders. She hoped that our senior citizens can take the opportunity to walk out, interact with the community, and enjoy a diverse healthy quality life.

Huang Bing-xi (黃炳熙), owner of the Bandai Fu Cinemas, has long been devoted to social welfare programs. He felt that the movie "A Simple Life" explores many implicit social issues and is worthwhile for the elderly and volunteers to watch. To express gratitude to Mr. Huang, the Social Affairs Bureau held a press conference at 9:30 today (May 24) in which more than 100 senior citizens and volunteers shared their ideas and experience of how to lead a happy and successful life and how to take care of the elderly. It is hoped that more and more people are aware of the needs of the elderly and willing to get involved in taking care of the elders in their community.
