Functions and Responsibilities

  • Secondary Education Section

    • The first section handles public high school affairs in regard to teaching, behavior counseling, human resources and financial matters.
    • The second section is in charge of junior high school affairs in regard to teaching, behavior counseling, counseling departments, and drop-out follow-up programs.
    • The third section manages junior high school affairs in regard to human resources and financial matters.


  • Elementary Education Section

    • Affairs related to Taichung City elementary school student recruitment, curriculum design and teaching.
    • Affairs related to moral education, field trips, behavior counseling, sexual-equality education, and friendly-campus programs.
    • Affairs related to principal and director elections, teacher interviewing and hiring, and school staff supervisory matters.
    • Affairs related to school buildings and equipment, division of school districts, and fee-collection service approval matters.


  • Early Childhood Education Section

    • The operation and management of public and private kindergartens (school registration, class-number increases and reductions, human resource matters, class-number approval, and teaching/office staff size)
    • The management of preschool education subsidy programs (education coupons, five-year-old children free-education projects, subsidy programs for children of aboriginal and middle/low income families in both public and private kindergartens)
    • Supervising and assisting registered kindergartens to improve learning environments, administrative management and teaching quality.


  • Special Education Section

    • Establishing programs for physically and mentally challenged students: disabled-status validation, locating institutions and making school arrangements, course-length adjustments according to student performance, resettlement services at the end of the 12-year special program, special education and scholarship applications, solicitation of supplementary equipment, tuition and home-study subsidies.
    • Organizing special education training and advanced studies; improve obstacle-free campus environments.
    • Evaluating students’ performance for possible relocation to appropriate locations, shorter course lengths and earlier schooling.


  • Social Education Section

    • Design art-education and traffic-safety activities in schools.
    • Promote language education and provide life-long learning programs outside of the formal education system for citizens and students.
    • Supervise and assist after-school programs provided by elementary and junior high schools, advanced separate programs at vocational schools, short-term professional training courses and the operation of academic foundations.


  • Health and Physical Education Section

    • Conduct regular safety checks of sports equipment and school facilities to ensure safe practices.
    • Reward outstanding school athletes, coaches and teams with scholarships and special ceremonies to recognize and encourage great performances.
    • Ensure the following programs are operated correctly: school-lunch arrangements, on-campus food-safety practices, student health supervision, health checks, group insurance, environmental education, school lighting and drinking-water facilities.
